For
decades our industry has relied on timesheets and various charge out rates
to calculate its bills. Many years ago I recognised that this method
carried two major flaws firstly the client would never know what the work
was going to cost until after it was done and secondly clients were not
interested in how long something took, they just wanted to know the price.
With effect from April 2008 we
did away with timesheets and
moved over to quoting for all work we do. On balance we now take
the risk of not charging adequately for some of the work
however we will save in administration plus it will give us all certainty
over the fees we charge.
Another key benefit to clients is that the "ticking clock" will disappear,
ie clients can speak to us at any time about anything without the fear of
extra charges.
